April 9, 2024 – High school juniors and seniors from across our district had the opportunity to select professional dress items for free at the “Suited for Success” shopping event, hosted by The Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools on April 9 at McLane High School. As they prepared for summer internships, job interviews, collegiate events and other professional opportunities, students chose from lightly worn suits, shirts, skirts, dresses and accessories. The items were collected during the Foundation’s second annual suit drive.

This fun shopping event also included food trucks, a DJ and volunteer clothing consultants to help students put together winning outfits. The Transportation Department provided transit for students from their schools to the event.


April 4, 2024 – Great news for our district’s Hmong programs! The California Wellness Foundation awarded The Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools a $40,000 one-time grant to establish a cultural exchange program for staff and students in our Hmong programs. The funds will allow for additional culturally enriching opportunities such as a trip overseas. Fresno Unified offers a Hmong dual language immersion pathway for preschool through Grade 12 with programs at Vang Pao and Balderas Elementary Schools, Sequoia Middle School and Roosevelt High School. Fresno Unified also offers Hmong heritage classes for high school students. The grant will be used to support educators and broaden experiences for students.

The Foundation is also hosting a campaign on the Adopt-a-Project crowdfunding platform, seeking donations to match the California Wellness Foundation grant.  […]

February 6, 2024 – The Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools collaborated with Lexia Learning to provide a free screening of “The Right to Read” at Fresno High School’s Royce Hall on Monday, February 5, 2024. The documentary, which profiles educators and civil rights advocates in Oakland and parents in Virginia and Tennessee, frames the importance of literacy as a civil right that must be accessible to all students. January 17, 2024 – FUSD scholarship applications are now open and the Foundation for Fresno Unified Schools is encouraging seniors to apply now. Dr. Andrew Scherrer, an executive officer with the foundation, joined the show with how the scholarships have evolved over the years and why all college-bound seniors should apply. November 28, 2023 – Nearly 83% of Fresno Unified students need financial assistance to pursue post-secondary education, but donating to the scholarship fund can change the course of a student’s life and is an investment in the entire community’s future. January 24, 2023 – Wendy McCulley, Chief Engagement and External Partnership Officer, for the Foundation for Fresno Unified has been acknowledged for her innovative and impactful work for Fresno Unified School District. She has been identified as a change agent who is and will continue to impact the City of Fresno.

January 9, 2023 – The Foundation for Fresno Unified has tripled the amount of funding for scholarships for Fresno Unified students. A $20 million donation from philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott, will allow the Foundation to provide an increased number of scholarships for many years to come.
