Despite numerous obstacles, our students persevere, excel in their studies, and are accepted to college or trade schools—only to be blocked by financial difficulties. The annual Gayland and Joy Anderson Smith Teaching Award provides funds to honor a Roosevelt High School teacher who has made outstanding contributions to the education of students through classroom instruction and other activities that promote student learning. This award provides students in the current senior class an opportunity to select the teacher who has made a significant impact on the student's intellectual and moral growth and development. The teacher will be recognized by a cash award of $5,000, a perpetual trophy, and name recognition on a plaque. Read Less
